History of Frisco

The city grew up around Old Shawnee Trail, which was used as a travel route by early pioneer settlers. Later renamed Preston Trail and now called Preston Road, it’s one of the oldest north/south routes in the US. When the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad was being built, a city called Emerson was established on the Shawnee Trail as a watering hole for steam locomotives. In 1904, Emerson was renamed Frisco City. It was later shortened to Frisco.

Frisco TX is an affluent, rapidly-growing bedroom community north of Dallas-Fort Worth. From 2000 until 2009, it was the fastest-growing city in the US. Spanning Collin and Denton counties, Frisco is now home to over 120,000 residents.

Frisco, Texas Demographics

Frisco has about 45,000 households. Seventy percent are married couples and about 22 percent are single or non-families homes. Fifty percent of households include kids under the age of 18. Most adults are between 25-64 years old, and median household income is about $115,000.

Downtown Frisco

Frisco Square is a modern, mixed-use development anchoring the new downtown. The square houses about 250 residential units, 40,000 square feet of office space, a Cinemark Theater and numerous restaurants. Apartment homes at Frisco Square offer the ultimate urban lifestyle. Dozens of shops, eateries, entertainment venues and events are all within walking distance.

Shopping in Frisco

Stonebriar Centre is a shopping mecca featuring specialty shops, eateries, a skating rink and a 24-screen theater. Anchored by Macy’s, Dillards and Nordstrom, the mall includes a carousel and western-style play area for kids. The nearby Centre at Preston Ridge offers more retail therapy with 100 shops and restaurants.

Frisco Sports and Activities

There’s plenty to root about in Frisco for sports fans. The city is home to the Dallas Cowboys Football team, Dallas Stars Hockey team and the FC Dallas Soccer Team. You can also catch minor league Rough Riders Baseball and Texas Legends Basketball.

Managed by the Frisco Association for the Arts, the Frisco Discovery Center is a former warehouse which is now a center for the arts and sciences. It houses the Black Box Theater, an art gallery, a sci-tech area and hosts numerous traveling exhibitions.

The Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving and recreating Frisco history. The two-story interactive museum displays artifacts and objects from the city’s western railroad town heritage. There’s also a living village, complete with one-room school house, log cabin, Baptist Church and train depot.

The Texas Sculpture Garden is a free attraction located in Hall Office Park. It includes 40 sculptures and 100 artworks from the private collection of Craig Hall.

On a walk through Frisco’s Central Park, you will see native Texas landscapes enhanced with waterfalls. This is a favorite local site for biking, walking and picnicking.
