3 Common Air Conditioning Repairs

Air conditioning issues can strike fast and leave you in an uncomfortable situation. Here are three of the most common air conditioning repairs we make to help you get through the Texas heat.

Leaky Evaporator Coils

When evaporator coils leak, the unit loses refrigerant, which drives the entire cooling cycle by carrying heat out of the home. Unfortunately, many evaporator coil leaks cannot be repaired. A “quick fix” solution is to simply recharge the system with more refrigerant, but while that will work for short-term cooling, it doesn’t fix the underlying issue. A leak can cause damage to other parts of the air conditioner, such as the compressor, and lead to decreased efficiency and cooling capacity.

Our recommended repair is to replace the evaporator coil itself as well as adjoining components such as the air plenum. At Bill Joplin’s Air Conditioning & Heating, we use superior insulation-wrapped metal plenums to maximize air quality, and our work is backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty as well as a 1-year labor warranty.

Frozen Coils

It may seem hard to believe, but even in the Texas heat we see air conditioners freeze up often. The culprit is usually blocked airflow, often from a dirty filter. Cleaning or changing the filter can fix this issue, as can cleaning the return air ductwork. In other cases, a refrigerant leak can lead to frozen cools.

When we see an air conditioner with frozen coils, we’ll do a thorough inspection to make sure we’ve addressed the underlying cause. Otherwise, the issue may return.

Faulty Wiring

Sometimes, the issue with your air conditioner is electrical in nature. Rust or corrosion on the wires can cause safety hazards in addition to making the unit cycle on and off, wasting electricity. We’ll carefully inspect all of your system’s wiring and tighten or replace wires as needed to resolve the issue.

Air conditioners are fairly complex machines, which means a lot can go wrong. For more information, check out our AC repair solutions or call (888) 414-4655.
