At Bill Joplin’s Air Conditioning & Heating, we understand that people in Collin County, Texas are concerned about their impact on the environment. They also want to keep the cost to run their HVAC system as low as possible. One way that our company addresses both concerns is by using R-410a instead of R-22 whenever we can. Both R-410a and R-22 are refrigerant gases that interact with the components of your HVAC system to produce a cooling or heating effect.
Up until the mid-1990s, R-22 was the default refrigerant gas used to power HVAC systems. Around that time, scientists discovered that it was contributing to depletion of the earth’s ozone layers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was concerned enough about this to pass legislation that gradually phases out the use of R-22 in HVAC systems. Heating and cooling companies were given until January 1, 2010 to make the switch to R-410a. However, since there are still HVAC systems in circulation that are operated by R-22, the EPA extended the deadline to the year 2020. After that time, it will impose a total ban on the sale, use and importation of R-22 into the country.
R-410a is a superior refrigerant gas because for several reasons. It is free of chlorine, a chemical that is harmful to the environment. HVAC systems that are operated on R-410a are also quieter and more energy efficient. If you are considering replacing an air conditioner or heat pump in your Collin County home, Bill Joplin’s Air Conditioning & Heating can assist you with choosing one that uses only R-410a. As a Carrier factory authorized dealer, we are pleased to work with an organization that takes environmental concerns seriously. Carrier had energy efficient and environmentally conscious air conditioners and heating systems available a full six years before any other manufacturer.
