Now that the hot Texan summer is upon us, you may have noticed that one of your rooms has specific cooling needs. Maybe your man-cave, craft room or garage is lacking a hookup to the rest of the cooling system in your house. Luckily, much has changed in the past hundred years of indoor air conditioning. For single room spaces, a versatile ductless mini-split system may be your best solution.
What is a ductless mini split?
This is a unit that can be installed independently of a central HVAC system and is well suited for add-ons or rooms that are out of reach of an existing duct system. Look for deals that can help make your new system more affordable.
What are the benefits?
Aesthetics: Both indoors and outdoors, ductless mini splits are less obtrusive than window units and can be installed either on the ground or suspended from the ceiling to fit into any room’s design scheme. The units are also quieter than other cooling solutions.
Convenience: Since mini splits are ductless, it won’t be necessary to undertake an invasive expansion of existing ductwork in your home. Additionally, the hole that the system needs to connect to the outside is smaller than those for many other systems. Alternatively, window units can become an entry point for potential intruders.
Efficiency: Because there is no ductwork, the ductless mini split avoids energy losses that typically occur as air is transferred within the ducts.
Although this cooling unit is much simpler than other systems, it doesn’t mean you should undertake installation yourself after a trip to the hardware store. The location and sizing and installation of the unit are key indicators as to whether the unit will operate efficiently and effectively. No one wants to waste money on too large of a system and then not even have it cool the room effectively.
