3 Signs Your Home's Humidity Level Is Too High

Throughout the summer, humidity often rises to uncomfortable levels in Frisco, Texas. When you need to escape the heat and excess moisture, your home should be a cool, calm retreat. Watch for condensation, musty odors, or allergies, which may indicate high humidity in your home, and learn how you can fix each problem.

Your Windows Have Condensation

If you’ve ever noticed fog or beads of moisture on the inside of your windows, you may have a humidity problem on your hands. This happens when warm outdoor air comes into contact with cooler indoor air, and it’s a sign that there’s too much moisture in your home.

At Bill Joplin’s, we recommend installing a whole-home dehumidifier to maintain a healthy humidity level. Portable dehumidifiers can sometimes solve isolated issues, but a moisture problem in one room typically compromises humidity throughout your entire home.

You Smell a Musty Odor

Musty odors often appear in crawl spaces, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other areas with the perfect storm of excess moisture and poor ventilation. Since musty odors could signal the presence of mold, this is a sign of humidity that you don’t want to ignore.

Start by finding the source of the problem. Mold is often easy to spot, since it tends to be dark in color. Next, talk with our knowledgeable team of technicians to learn how exhaust fans and whole-home ventilation options can freshen the air in your home.

Your Allergies Get Worse Indoors

If you tend to sneeze and sniffle more indoors than you do outside, high humidity may be the problem. Mold, dust mites, and other common indoor allergens tend to multiply in humid conditions.

Contact us to check the settings on your HVAC system, and we’ll ensure that humidity levels are set correctly. We may also recommend investing in an air cleaner that works with the HVAC system to improve your home’s air quality.
